Hans Belting and Hermeneutics – Between Unease and Awareness

Beginning with an article by Hans Robert Jauss, which detects in Belting some "unease" towards hermeneutics, this paper claims instead that Belting, his studies, manifests deep hermeneutic awareness, among other things indebted many respects to Jauss' reception theory itself. Nonetheless, it is still possible notice "unease," emerges the way considers hermeneutics "methods and games" of history art. In regard, Belting's analysis – concerning relationship between iconology philosophical art historical appears densely loaded meaning but also partial. This due fact he limits himself critically discussing only one tendency, well represented, eyes, Wilhelm Dilthey, Hans-Georg Gadamer Sedlmayr, latter being representative takes into account.
